Disney's Typhoon Lagoon, which first opened in June of 1989, is themed around the once prosperous Placid Palms Resort that was struck by a typhoon. The centerpiece is the 100-foot Mount Mayday where the parks two speed slides, four twisting body slides and three tube slides all are located. Guests will also notice the Miss Tilly a shrimp boat that was stranded on top of Mt. Mayday during the storm that turned the island upside down.
